FLORENT TANET
Divide and conquer
6 June 2017
Paris-based French photographer and art director Florent Tanet’s clever use of framing, colour and lighting creates enthralling visual puzzles. With backgrounds devoid of clutter, and an almost mathematical precision for composition, Tanet’s objects are the stars of the show.
Some photos feature complex, postmodern frameworks that are reminiscent of Escher’s endlessly fascinating logical/illogical twists and turns. In other images, items with bold shapes and colours are so carefully composed and lit that it would be easy to mistake them for 2D cut-outs and collages, were it not for the ingenious use of shadow, betraying their 3D forms. Combining a sharp eye and mind, Tanet’s witty, optical tricks are enticing, stylish and fun to behold.
